SNOMOS may be best known for its minimalist watches that embrace the Bauhaus school of design, but while all NOMOS watches share a unifying design language with an emphasis on simplicity and legibility, the watches are designed for a wide range of intentions. For those with a more active lifestyle, lines like the Club and Ahoi offer plenty of durability and water resistance for casual aquatic endeavors. However, the introduction of the Club Sport neomatik and Tangente Sport neomatik in 2019 heralded a new direction for the brand, with both new sports models designed to stand up some serious adventures, including exploring depths of up to 1000 feet. Expanding on the success of the Club Sport neomatik, NOMOS has just announced a new version with a blue sunburst dial and — in a first for NOMOS — a bracelet that integrates seamlessly with the case.
On paper, the Club Sport neomatik 42 date blue may come across as something of a departure for the Glashütte-based brand. Where the Sport differentiates itself is with the large case diameter, oversized date window at 3 o’clock, and generously lumed hands and markers that glow a soft blue in the dark, not to mention the robust 1000 feet of water resistance. The result is a Club that is, at once, familiar but clearly more purposeful in its intentions.
Now, what we really need to talk about here is the bracelet. NOMOS is no stranger to producing bracelets that are both elegant and sporty, yet the brand has traditionally only offered bracelets with straight end links that accentuate the gorgeous sculptural lugs that are ingrained into the brand’s design language. However, for sportier models, like the Club, NOMOS fans have been clamoring for a more traditional bracelet with fitted end links that conform to the case. NOMOS has now delivered, but, in true NOMOS fashion, they’ve done it their own way.
At a quick glance, the bracelet on the NOMOS Club Sport may look like a traditional three-link bracelet, but a deeper look reveals that NOMOS has sweated every detail. The rounded links on the 20mm bracelet match the soft lines of the Club Sport, with end links that integrate seamlessly with case. The polished center links match the high polish finish of the case, but the brushing on the side links emphasizes the sporty intentions of the piece. And let’s not forget the little details — the bracelet attaches to the case via tool-free spring bars, allowing for easy strap changes, in case you want to dress the watch down with one of the nylon straps or dress it up with leather. The clasp design echoes that of the other NOMOS bracelets, with a minimalist and easy-wearing clasp with push-button release and micro-adjust holes.
Like all NOMOS watches, the Club Sport is powered by an in-house automatic movement. In this case, NOMOS employs the DUW 6101 neomatik caliber that features automatic winding, 42-hours of power reserve, and a date function that is adjustable in both directions. The DUW 6101 uses NOMOS’s swing system, a Glashütte three-quarter plate that features a tempered blue balance spring and blue screws, Glashütte ribbing, and perlage. Topping things off is a winding rotor that features gold-plated embossing. All this is to say that NOMOS’s DUW 6101 is much more than your standard movement — it’s gorgeous to behold behind the sapphire caseback and is incredibly robust and reliable.
