Panerai Debuts The Luminor Luna Rossa PAM1342 Watch

since 2017, Panerai has been a partner of the Luna Rossa racing team and has produced a number of different limited-edition watches that celebrate the championship-winning sailboat racing syndicate. To celebrate the renewal of its partnership with Team Luna Rossa, and as part of the festivities leading up to the race for the 37th America’s Cup that is set to take place in Barcelona in 2024,replika klokker Panerai has just unveiled the new limited-edition Luminor Luna Rossa PAM1342, which showcases what the brand is calling a “modern interpretation of nautical style” that embraces a lighter color profile compared to what has typically been featured on Panerai’s various Luna Rossa edition watches.

At its core, the new Panerai Luminor Luna Rossa PAM1342 follows much of the same familiar format as other models from the collection and it features a 44mm polished stainless steel case that includes the Luminor’s signature lever-operated crown protecting bridge prominently occupying the right-hand side of the case. As it is not one of the brand’s Submersible models, the bezel is a simple smooth fixed ring surrounding the domed sapphire crystal, while the solid screw-down stainless steel caseback helps provide the PAM1342 with 100 meters of water resistance. All things considered, the case is very similar to what you will find on other 44mm Panerai Luminor models, which is a statement that can also be said about a number of other models from the range. However, as is often the case with Panerai’s watches, the most noteworthy features on this latest Luna Rossa pertain to the nuances of its dial.

The dial of the Panerai Luminor Luna Rossa PAM1342 follows the brand’s signature sandwich style construction and features a crisp white surface that immediately makes it stand out from most of the other models in the brand’s contemporary lineup. Additionally, the lower luminous layer that is visible through the cutouts in the upper surface of the dial is finished with gray Super-LumiNova, which is also used to fill the centrally-mounted hour and minute hands for a striking, almost monochromatic appearance that represents a stark contrast to Panerai’s usual approach of having dark dials finished with lighter colored markings. At the 9 o’clock location resides a small running seconds hand, which appears in a vibrant shade of red that adds the only touch of color on the watch itself and matches the red stripe present on the bi-material gray strap with the Luna Rossa logo.

Powering the new Panerai Luminor Luna Rossa PAM1342 is the Caliber P.6000 movement, which is one of the brand’s manually-wound mechanical calibers that consists of 19 jewels, 110 components, and runs at a frequency of 21,600vph, while offering users a 3-day power reserve. The Cal. P.6000 is one of the more entry-level movements that Panerai currently offers in its contemporary lineup and it lacks some of the more elaborate features and lengthier power reserves of its more advanced siblings. However, a more advanced caliber would have inevitably resulted in this watch having a higher price point, and it’s important to remember that this is a limited edition model to celebrate Panerai’s relationship with the Luna Rossa racing team, rather than a core model that is intended to have mass appeal and serve as the backbone of the brand’s catalog.

As is often the case with many of Panerai’s models, the new Luminor Luna Rossa PAM1342 is a limited edition, and production will be capped at 1,500 pieces worldwide. Additionally, with an official retail price of $5,900 USD, the new Luna Rossa edition is priced near the more affordable end of the collection, representing just a $900 premium compared to the absolute least expensive Luminor models that are currently available. Considering how consistent Panerai’s design language can be and how many of the more unique limited edition models are made from premium materials, the new Luminor Luna Rossa PAM1342 represents an opportunity for Panerai collectors to get a truly fresh colorway and the brand’s most iconic case design, without having to pay titanium or Carbotech prices in order to obtain it.
