Tudor Pelagos FXD Watch Developed With The Marine Nationale

After decades of hiatus, Tudor once again returns with a fresh dive watch designed and labeled for Marine Nationale, the French Navy. Enter the Tudor Pelagos FXD, a titanium dive watch that meets a unique set of specifications developed in conjunction with the French Navy’s combat swimmers, the prestigious Commando Hubert. What’s new over a regular Pelagos, one of the more underrated, yet technically strongest products of the brand? First, the Tudor Pelagos FXD debuts a fixed (FiXeD) lug structure crafted from the same singular block of titanium for added strength; second, it relies on a 120-click bi-directional bezel with retrograde 60-to-0 graduation that, admittedly, fake rolex does not correspond to the ISO 6425:2018 standard of divers’ watches, but instead meets the specific needs of the method known as “underwater navigation,” one of the specialties of combat swimmers. The bezel is wider than normal “for optimum grip, even with neoprene gloves and hands that are numb from l...

Casio G-Shock MTGB2000YBD1 In Lighter-Weight Steel & Carbon

Gasio has recently debuted a new version of its current-generation G-Shock MTGB2000 that combines a dark-colored case with a combination of lightweight materials such as carbon and glass fiber. Casio claims that these materials are up to 77% lighter than steel. The resulting watch is the MTGB2000YBD1, and it is certainly lighter than the Casio G-Shock MTG reference MTGB2000D-1A that I went hands-on with here. How much lighter is the MTGB2000YBD1? The other MTGB2000 that I previously covered weighed in at an already impressive (for a wristwatch on a bracelet) 156 grams. This new MTGB2000YBD1 weighs just 131 grams — noticeably lighter when handling. Style-wise, the MTGB2000YBD1 (aka MTGB2000YBD) features dark gray-coated steel and a combination of carbon elements (such as for the sophisticated Carbon Core Guard case structure), glass fiber, rolex replica and Casio’s own resin blends (such as for the inside-facing parts of the bracelet). The model is marked by a deep gray and red se...

The NOMOS Club Sport Neomatik Features A Stunning Blue Dial And Redesigned Bracelet

SNOMOS may be best known for its minimalist watches that embrace the Bauhaus school of design, but while all NOMOS watches share a unifying design language with an emphasis on simplicity and legibility, the watches are designed for a wide range of intentions. For those with a more active lifestyle, lines like the Club and Ahoi offer plenty of durability and water resistance for casual aquatic endeavors. However, the introduction of the Club Sport neomatik and Tangente Sport neomatik in 2019 heralded a new direction for the brand, with both new sports models designed to stand up some serious adventures, including exploring depths of up to 1000 feet. Expanding on the success of the Club Sport neomatik, NOMOS has just announced a new version with a blue sunburst dial and — in a first for NOMOS — a bracelet that integrates seamlessly with the case. On paper, the Club Sport neomatik 42 date blue may come across as something of a departure for the Glashütte-based brand. Features like hi...

Andersen Geneve Jumping Hours 40th Anniversary Watch

If you are looking to find a tiny oasis of old-school watchmaking in Geneva, all you have to do is walk southwest a few minutes along the Rhône, find the right staircase, and knock on the right door, and you’ll find the seemingly always high-spirited Svend Andersen and his proper-traditional watchmaking workshop. A detailed workshop visit article is yet to come, but first, let’s see some of his latest creations with the Andersen Geneve Jumping Hours 40th Anniversary watch. Born and trained as a watchmaker in Denmark, Andersen has an impressive, if lesser-known, track record of achievements as a master watchmaker. He moved to Switzerland in 1963 and worked for nine years at Patek Philippe’s Atelier des grandes complications from 1969 before establishing his own workshop as an independent watchmaker. Interestingly, he began by producing high-end cases for Italian collectors, a work that entailed unique piece consignments, often with whimsical and unique time displays and calendars. ...

Laurent Ferrier Announces Limited Edition Hommage II Watches

When it comes to elegant, dressy designs, few eras in watchmaking can compare to the ‘30s, ‘40s, and ‘50s. The small-seconds, stepped-case aesthetic of the era is still highly prized among enthusiasts today, and echoes of this stylistic heritage still ring through the modern luxury watch market. Laurent Ferrier pays tribute to this age of elegance with its latest pair of releases, blending together cues from many of the era’s most beloved designs with seamlessly integrated original concepts. Collaboratively designed with Phillips Watches in association with Bacs & Russo, the limited edition Laurent Ferrier Hommage II series is an impeccably made love letter to the greatest watches of the ‘40s, using bespoke components for every part of the watch except the movement to create a truly unique custom look apart from the brand’s standard offerings. Much of the attention surrounding the Laurent Ferrier Hommage II series is focused around its 40mm stainless steel case design, and wit...

Seiko ‘Baby’ Alpinist SPB155/SPB159

For the majority of enthusiasts, Seiko will forever be associated with affordable, charmingly nicknamed dive watches, including the Turtle, Tuna, and Samurai, just to name a few. But the revered Japanese brand also has a long history of producing capable field watches under the Alpinist banner dating back to 1959, indeed before Seiko had so much as dipped a fin into the proverbial and frigid dive-watch waters. And for Alpinist nerds in the modern era, the SARB017 and its heir apparent, the SPB121, stand together as the purest expression of the design formula, exemplified by a green dial, internal rotating compass bezel with its additional crown, and a polarizing cyclops magnifier over the date. However, in 2020, Seiko did something unexpected in its refresh of the Alpinist family, quietly adding a new model in a more streamlined 38mm case, forgoing the cyclops and internal bezel, and complete with Seiko’s impressive 6R35 caliber boasting an extended 70-hour power reserve. For me a...

Panerai Luminor Marina Carbotech Blu Notte PAM1664 Limited-Edition Watch

Just released by Panerai is the new Luminor Marina Carbotech Blu Notte PAM 1664, a 500-piece limited edition exclusively for the brand’s e-commerce store. The resilient yet super lightweight watch is done in a 44mm Carbotech case, which is the carbon fiber composite that Panerai has used for the past few years. This is the first time Panerai has matched a Carbotech case with a blue dial, and the result is a handsome and well-proportioned watch that I’d absolutely wear on a regular basis. Carbotech is a carbon fiber composite used by Panerai for about six years now, favored for its lightweight durability and almost Damascus steel-like pattern created by the material’s layering process. The process of creating Carbotech involves layering sheets of carbon fiber that are held together with a polymer resin and then heated and pressurized. Panerai was smart to realize that not everyone in the watch community is a fan of the beige “fauxtina,” and last year’s Luminor Marina PAM 1313 was a...

Breitling Replica Introduces New Sustainable Packaging Made From Recycled Materials

In our modern world, sustainability and environmental consciousness have made their way into nearly every industry on earth, and while the luxury watch business may be a somewhat late adopter in this field it is far from uninvolved in pushing towards a cleaner and more efficient future. Most of these efforts in the watch industry take the form of partnerships with environmental groups and charities, but as time goes on brands have begun to work more directly to address their own products’ impact on the environment. Breitling is the latest brand to join this charge, announcing that it will offer a new packaging concept across its entire product line made entirely of recycled materials. The new Breitling box is constructed entirely of upcycled PET plastic reclaimed from plastic bottles and can be completely recycled again if no longer needed. The new foldable Breitling box will be standard equipment with all new Breitling purchases, and takes a dramatically different visual tack fro...

Hands-On With The New Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Small Seconds

Effervescent. It’s the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra, in a word. It’s the twist and the crack, the soft hissing of bubbles, and the satisfying clear liquid cascading from a tall frosted bottle into a cold rocks glass. It’s the soft clinking of ice cubes at water’s edge. And with its colorful array of offerings, its bubbly personality, and its sharply rendered dial, it’s also arguably the platonic ideal of the summer watch — one for overnight backpacking trips, beaches & backyard cookouts, but also weddings, client meetings, and date nights. It’s also likely why just a few days shy of summer’s official starting line, Omega replica uhren is effectively doubling down on its most versatile collection with nearly twenty (!!) new Aqua Terra references equipped with the Bienne maker’s newest Small Seconds Master Chronometer calibre. Quite honestly, it’s a huge line extension, and one that I personally don’t fully understand — it feels a bit like the Omega from five or years ago, a bran...

Replica Cartier Debuts Limited Edition Rotonde De Cartier Precious Icons Set Watches

While Cartier has rightly earned its place as an icon in watchmaking, its contributions to haute horlogerie are often far less discussed than designs like the Tank or Santos. While they may fly relatively under the radar, these offerings rarely lack for spectacle, and the brand’s first haute horlogerie collection of 2021 is no exception. This exclusive box set trio of designs all aim to push the aesthetic limits of skeletonization, inspired by both the brand’s own design traditions and the dramatic look of floating mystery dials. The new limited edition Cartier Rotonde de Cartier Precious Icons Set includes the Rotonde de Cartier Astromystérieux, Rotonde de Cartier Astrotourbillon, and the Rotonde de Cartier Skeleton Mysterious Double Tourbillon, all three of which push the intricate and complex tourbillon escapement to new visual frontiers. The flagship model in this new set is undoubtedly the Cartier Rotonde de Cartier Skeleton Mysterious Double Tourbillon. The Mysterious Skelet...

Bremont Supermarine S302 GMT Diver

If you’ve ever met Nick or Giles English, you know the brothers are always smiling. And why wouldn’t they be? After all, the founding pair behind British watchmaker Bremont has finally moved into their brand’s expansive new manufactory after a yearlong delay due to the global pandemic, a facility that is already starting to yield the fruits of a whole lot of labor. Among those fruits is the 40mm Supermarine S302 GMT dive watch — one of the very first Bremont references to come to life in this ambitious new space. Before we get too deep in the weeds around specific impressions of the watch itself, it’s worth taking a moment to acknowledge the Wing — Bremont’s new manufactory in Henley at Thames and a central character in the brand’s long-running goal of bringing the United Kingdom back to the forefront of the watchmaking industry. It’s been quite a triumph, though — after five years in development (not counting the pandemic delay), the sweeping vision of the Wing certainly does see...

Dive Watches In The Desert

When I first explained my idea of doing an article about dive watches in the desert, a common initial response from the aBlogtoWatch editorial team was, “Where are you going to go diving in the desert?” Chuckling, I responded that actual diving wasn’t the point. Rather, it would be a discussion into how effective the world’s favorite sport watches (diving-style) are at being useful wrist tools in extremely warm weather. Finally, the opportunity for a nice drive into the heart of our warming planet presented itself, and I made my way to the famed Red Rock Canyon National Park outside of Las Vegas, Nevada. Armed with three popular diver’s-style timepieces with me, here is what I learned about dive watches in the desert. First, a few important assumptions and notions so that the reader can understand why taking dive watches into the desert is even an interesting intellectual exercise (aside from being fun), to begin with. In short, there really aren’t many tool watches with a hot-wea...
